Phonemic Awareness ActivitiesPhonemic Awareness is the ability to hear and manipulate the sounds in spoken words and the understanding that spoken words and syllables are made up of sequences of speech sounds. Phonemic Awareness is an essential component when learning to read--without this skill, students are unable to map speech sounds to print.
You may want to gather some supplies before completing these activities with Mrs. Stover. You will need some small objects to use as manipulatives. You could use any type of coin (penny, nickel, etc.), dried beans, crayons, buttons, dried noodles, toy cars, Lego pieces, marshmallows--the possibilities are endless!!! I'll always let you know exactly how many items you will need at the beginning of the video. Click on the link(s) below to access our phonemic awareness video(s).
